Broadleaf Weed Control

overview

QuickSilver® (carfentrazone-ethyl) is a rapid- acting, post-emergent, contact herbicide that provides quick knockdown as a tank mix partner in combination with other herbicides. QuickSilver provides improved efficacy compared to broadleaf weed herbicide alone. An applicator is also able to reduce the rate of their broadleaf weed herbicide. QuickSilver acts rapidly; activity is observed within a few hours of application. This formula gives your tank mix a boost, providing visible results within 24 hours.

How Does QuickSilver Herbicide Work

Carfentrazone-ethyl is a light-dependent herbicide that inhibits the enzyme protoporphyrinogen oxidase (commonly abbreviated as protox), and in doing so disrupts lipid and cell membranes. The lethal effect is caused by natural plant compounds that accumulate in the cells of weeds treated with carfentrazone-ethyl. Symptoms are leaf darkening followed by desiccation. Carfentrazone-ethyl has low water solubility and is not a systemic herbicide. Carfentrazone- Broadleaf Weed Control ethyl is slightly lipophilic and rapidly penetrates the leaf cuticle. The product demonstrates rain fastness within 1 to 2 hours of application.

Management

Broadleaf weeds can dramatically affect the overall aesthetics of turfgrass whether it is a home lawn, golf course or other setting. Some weeds, like dollarweed, are more aggressive in growth and can form dense populations. Others, like dandelion, are bunch type weeds that produce multiple leaves that shade out the desirable turf. Regardless of the species, all weeds disrupt and reduce turfgrass competitiveness if management practices are not implemented .

Cultural

Broadleaf weeds take advantage of voids in the turfgrass canopy where the desired turfgrass has been stressed due to environmental or mechanical factors. Its wide leaf blades shade out desirable turfgrass. The best cultural control methods for broadleaf weeds involve creating the best growing environment for the turfgrass by providing balanced fertility, adequate moisture and proper mowing.

Chemical

Systemic herbicides that translocate down to the roots can produce more effective weed control by taking advantage of weeds preparing to overwinter. QuickSilver tank mixed herbicides will increase the activity and efficacy of your broadleaf weed herbicides. Maintain the pH of the spray solution in the range of pH 5 to 8. Use buffers as necessary. Spray solution in the range of pH 6 to 7 is optimal.
